Aerodynamic circulation wind tunnel

Aerodynamic circulation wind tunnel

The wind tunnel for TUL was designed as a closed vertical circuit with a high air flow velocity in the measurement space (80 m.s-1). The design and implementation corresponded to the above concept, where in addition to a massive supporting structure (divided so that vibrations from the fan are not transmitted to the tunnel structure), it was also necessary to design a drive and cooling system to maintain the temperature in the test section close to the ambient temperature. The tunnel was equipped with a 70 kW motor with a specially designed fan, the blades of which were made of carbon composite. This solution was used primarily because of the most balanced speed profile possible, while relatively good acoustic properties were also achieved. The relatively high speed in the measurement space, due to the required power of the drive fan, also required the use of a cooling system with a large compressor unit located outside the laboratory building together with the entire corresponding water management system.
